Charlies Angel redux?

Apparently development executives in the world of TV have run out of any original ideas. I mean this year alone we had the Melrose Place redux, the V reimagining, and the recently cancelled Eastwick remake. And then there is also the The Jay Leno Show. Okay so Leno is not really a remake, redux or reimagining - but it is pretty unoriginal. He he he. It would seem that there are absolutely no new ideas to be found, because according to Variety ABC is *this* close to asking for a Pilot script for an updated version of Charlie's Angels.

Sigh.
Really?
This is a good idea? In whose fantasy world is a remake of a show that basically objectified women in every way imaginable a good idea? Don't get me wrong, I actually love Charlie's Angels. My favourite Angel was always Kelly Garrett (Jaclyn Smith). The way her hair was so shiny and bouncy and she was always the nice one. I kinda wanted to be her when I grew up.
I could go on about how I think this is a really really bad idea, but believe it or not, I am choosing to reserve judgment. I am gonna give the powers that be at ABC the benefit of the doubt until it is both confirmed and the cast is announced.
Casting will be key for this.
Charlie is actually easy the only one I am willing to call right now. Alan Dale. Hands down. You know him right? Alan is typically cast as the up-to-no-good father - in Ugly Betty, The OC and most recently as the nefarious Charles Widmore in ABC's Lost. I remember him as lovable patriarch Jim Robinson from Neighbours. I miss Neighbours.......

I am not comfortable calling any of the Angels yet. It depends what age they are going for. There are a ton of actors out there who could be good in the role...... The only one I am willing to admit to dreaming of is SMG.
In a perfect world my girl Sarah Michelle Gellar would come back to the small screen. That would be amazing and is likely just a dream.... But SMG has all that Buffy fight training to rely on right? And she could be either the sassy newbie or the jaded sarcastic senior Angel. I don't think it will happen. Sarah seems to be trying to distance herself from all things related to Buffy and may not wish to subject herself to the inevitable comparisons. And there is also the matter of the HBO series that she filmed in New york earlier this year. She comes with the built in Joss Whedon fanbase. Not that that is any indication of a successful series (umm.... Dollhouse or Firefly anyone?)

Other than Sarah, I can't decide......... Kristen Bell? Rachel Bilson? Summer Glau? Lindsay Price? Eliza Dushku? Dichen Lachman? Zoe Bell? Gina Torres? Amy Acker? Felicia Day? Argh. So many options! I have even read a few blogs that are saying Claire Danes. While I would love her to be back on the small screen, it would have to be in a reunion of My So Called Life instead.

Who do you see as the Angels in this reboot?

Its the Schmemmy's!

And no these are not the Emmy equivalent of The Razzies. These are the Creative Arts Emmy Awards - those awards deemed by the Powers that be at Emmy-world not worthy of being on the broadcast that is being televised this coming Sunday. Oh you know awards such as editing, art direction, make-up, hairstyling, music etc. All the stuff that makes the shows we love, you know good. They are airing the ceremony on the E! Network.... which Vancouver no longer has.... boooooo to that. I would so totally love to see the ceremony.

Not only was it hosted by the hi-larious Katthy Griffin, but Joss Whedon finally got some Emmy love. In spite of the critical acclaim heaped on his work, Joss has never won and Emmy. He was nominated for best writing for an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where ironically the entire cast lost their voices 10 minutes in. Hush is a great episode of TV, if you haven't seen it, you should.

Joss (and his team) won the Emmy for "outstanding Special Class — Short Format Live-Action Entertainment Program" for his web based comedy musical - Dr Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog. Now, I don't quite get why an Emmy was given out for online programming, but I am not going to quibble about it. Hells yea! Can I get a woot woot! So happy about this.

If you have not seen this amazing 45 minute of Internet fabulousness, why not? It has Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion. They sing. There is a death ray. And An Evil League of Evil which is headed up by "Bad Horse, the Thoroughbred of Sin". And NPH - who sings. He is Dr Horrible, he has a PhD in horribleness. It is genius. I not only bought it on I-Tunes, I also bought the DVD when it came out. See it. See it. See it.

A few acting honours were also given out for guest starring roles in both the Comedy and Drama categories. Most notably Tina Fey continued her streak of winning any award she is nominated for by snapping up the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her uncanny portrayal of ex-Governor Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. During her acceptance speech, Fey acknowledged both her former SNL colleagues and her Republican parents. “They thought the first four sketches were very funny,” Fey said. “The last two were, in their words, ‘Enough already.’” She also took one last jab at Sarah Palin in closing by declaring that “Mrs. Palin is an inspiration to working mothers everywhere,” Fey joked, “because she bailed on her job right before Fourth of July weekend. You are living my dream. Thank you Mrs Palin

Oh and Justin Timberlake also won for his role on SNL. Blargh. Like he needs anything else to pad his ego. He was not on hand to accept the award, so he is getting no love from me. I am surprised Jessica didn't force him to go. She hasn't been in the news for a while..... maybe she is working on that sex tape.

For a complete list of winners you can see them here

The Primetime Emmys are on this Sunday hosted by NPH, who still needs to be my Gay Best Friend. Here is a quick pic of my Neil in Rolling Stone. Hello Salty goodness! Oh, la!

Date My Avatar #1 on I-Tunes!

Okay, my geek level is about to go way up. There is this web series I discovered a little while ago called The Guild. Starring Buffy alum Felicia Day, this award winning show is about the lives of a group of on line gamers. It follows the life of Codex (Day), Healer of the Knights of the Good, who vainly tries to lead a normal life after one of her guildmates shows up on her doorstep. I know I know. I don't get why I love this show either. I have never played D&G or any other equivalent. I don't know my MMO from my elbow

Felicia was in Season 7 of Buffy as one of the "potentials", and then starred in Joss Whedon's fantastic Dr Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog - alongside Neil Patrick Harris (who still needs to be my gay best friend) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle). Joss has stated that Dr Horrible was partly inspired by The Guild.

But the show is awesome. Funny and smart and fantastic. I have watched 2 seasons through their You-Tube Channel, and this show is another reason that I am very sad I did not make it down to Comic-con as the cast was in attendance. At Comic Con they announced Wil Wheaton was joining the cast in Season three as the leader of a new rival Guild - Axis of Anarchy. Yay to that.

I am such a dork......

There is a point to this. Trust me. During the panel at Comic Con the cast also debuted the video below for the song, "Do You Want to Date My Avatar", which was released today on I-Tunes. After a mass rallying cry on social media networks like Twitter, this video was Number 1 earlier today. The power of geeks should never be underestimated!

I am not super clear on what an avatar is or does. I am pretty confident that I do not have an avatar though. I am guessing it is your online character? Hmmm. The song is very catchy and the cast are all in their World of Warfare avatar costumes. Felicia write the lyrics and the music and video were directed by Jed Whedon (brother of Joss). This could become the summer jam of gamers everywhere!!

Season 3 of the Guild Premieres on August 25th on the interweb. Felicia currently has over one million followers on Twitter. And you probably have no idea who she is right? She is a world of awesome and you should follow follow follow Ms Felica Day.
