Funerals & Faith

Last night I was trying to find something to watch on TV. I am totally counting down the days until my stories come back on. Next week a few return or start...... only a few more days. yea! Until then I was forced to flick between MJ's funeral on CNN and my absolute favourite Cheerleader movie from the year 2000 - Bring it On.

The funeral was interesting. For a family that claims to want privacy and to be just left alone to grieve, it seems kinda odd that they would have a live feed to the funeral. Of course, I hope that it is simply that they were just controlling access as they cut off the feed when people began speaking. Although the mighty Rev. Al Sharpton found it necessary to tweet throughout the service - nothing too specific, but still...... tacky tacky tacky. I am glad it is finally over and we can start to move on. The man died, what 70 days ago? Well, until they charge someone in his death. F*ck, it will never end will it?

Bring It On was much more entertaining..... I kinda love that movie. It doesn't take itself at all seriously and surprisingly witty. I realised last night that no fewer than three alumni of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are in this film. I had no idea!! Of course, it stars Eliza Dusku - the amazing Faith from Season 3, 4 and 7. I knew that. What I didn't remember was that Clare Kramer, the Big Bad of Season 5 was also one of the Mighty Might Toro's as was Season 3 The Wish victim Nicole Bilderback. Yes I recall one of the victims from a specific episode. The Wish is one of my Top Ten Buffy episodes - to reduce my level of geekdom, Ilet it be known that I did have to Google both the actress' name and that fact that her characters name in Buffy was "Cordette".

Best part of Bring it On is the Mickey montage at the end. Sadness is that I just realised why they did the closing credits to this particular song. Toni Basil, Cheerleader themed video, movie about cheerleaders. Duh! Yea I totally didn't make the connection until just now. And I have seen this movie a few times..... Mock away friends. I deserve it for this one.....Here is about 25 seconds of it that I found on the interweb.

Eliza is back on TV in a few weeks for the second season of the Joss Whedon helmed Dollhouse. As you know, I worship at the altar of Joss. But between you and me, I wasn't too sure about this show when I first watched it. I am soo glad I gave this show a chance and watched it beyond the first few episodes. The second half of season 1 was really good. And Season 2 is shaping up to be awesome with Jamie Bamber (BSG), Alexis Denisof (Wesley from Angel and Buffy) as well as Summer Glau (Firefly) all slated for guest starring roles. Promo shots for Dollhouse are below. What do you think? I personally prefer the one on the right. More dark and twisty right? Is she inside or outside? Trapped or free? So many questions that I know Joss will not answer...... bastard.

Dollhouse is back on September 25th on Fox. At least they did something right and gave this show a second season. Unlike Firefly or Arrested Development. Oh and they are the nimrod's contemplating a Heathers TV show. Sigh.

Epitaph = Joss Whedon is a f*cking genius

One of the things I was most disappointed about by not being at Comic-con a few weeks ago, was missing out on the screening of the mythical, unaired 13th episode of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. I had to wait, like 95% of the fans until it came out on DVD last week (and then I fell really hard in HMV and have some super gnarly bruises on my leg and elbow, but that is a whole other story).

I finally had a chance to watch it on the weekend (along with the original pilot) and all I have to say is Holy F*ckballs. It was amazing and my mind is officially blown. First off, can I get a huge woot woot that Felicia Day was in it - and that she played such a bad-ass? Amazingness!

Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the episode uses flashbacks to hint at the future direction the show may (or may not) go in. The moral implications of the Dollhouse technology are exposed for all to see, as the world has now been split between "actuals" (non-imprinted humans) and dolls who have been imprinted to kill actuals. A group of actuals discover the seemingly abandoned Dollhouse where they encounter a wiped Whiskey (the amazing Amy Acker), who knows where "Safe-Haven" is - a place that is apparently free of both imprinting & tech.

I hope that the show finds an audience in the second season, because some of the stuff that was hinted at - OMFG. Echo being able to fight the imprinting? Boyd leaving the Dollhouse b/c he placed echo in danger and does not wish to place Dr Saunders/Whiskey in the same position (I smell a lurve affair!), the Company that owns the Dollhouse - Rossum Corporation - deciding to sell actives, DeWitt fighting against that, the LA Dollhouse at war with Rossum, the LA Doll's being being given their original personalities back........ I could go on. So many possibilities and twisty-turny directions this show could go in!

Squeeeeee to Season 2. And 3 and 4 and 5...... Come on people, watch this show. So amazing. The writing is stellar - full of pop culture references, and snappy one liners you wish you had thought of yourself! Oh and for any BSG fans out there - Jamie Bamber and Michael Hogan are both confirmed for guest spots early in Season 2. More squeeeeee! I am such a loser. Sigh.

Dollhouse season 1 is available on DVD right now (don't buy it at HMV though as they are assholes) and Season 2 starts September 25th. Watch it friends. Joss needs your help.

Holy F*ck Balls, I wish I was at Comicon #3

In honour of my 100th Post, it is fitting that I dedicate this to the subject of quite a number of my previous ramblings - and it is not the hawtness of Robert Pattinson. It is the Hawtness of Joss Whedon. Friday's at Comi Con seem to have morphed into Joss appreciation day. Thousands of fans turned up to see Joss and listen to him speak today and the Dollhouse Panel proved as popular as anything Joss related. From what I have gleaned from the interwebs two very exciting things were revealed.

First off both Summer Glau and Alexis Denisof will be appearing in season 2. Buffy and Angel alum Alexis will be appear in multiple episode. Can you say awesome? Yay! No word on who his character is except that he will "cross blades" with Eliza Dushku's Echo. Joss works with people he like, and loves to bring them back into the fold. Kinda like the whole Ridley Scott-Russell Crowe or Tim Burton-Johhny Depp thing. I think most Whedon alumni answer the phone saying "yes Joss, whatever you want". I can't wait to see this next season.

Secondly, they aired the uber-dark & twisty episode 13 - Epitaph. Holy mother of Joss. Far too much to recap in this. Basically, from the review I read, this is akin to the Season 3 finale of BSG - everything you thought you knew - you didn't and nothing will ever be the same. I know that I am going to be at the store on Tuesday to pick up my Season 1 DVD which contains Episode 13 (and the original Pilot). Joss is a mad genius and I worship at his altar. I am such a dork. He even managed to throw in a not so subtle dig at season 2 of Heroes, when they ill advisedly sent Masi Oki's character back to feudal Japan.

No word yet on whether there will be a followup to the Emmy nominated and hi-larious Dr Horribles sing-a-long blog. Apparently the team is talking about it, but nothing has been written yet.

Season 2 of Dollhouse will air on Fox on September 25th (I think, some sites say it is earlier)

My Mantra for Season 2 is a quote from the man himself: "No one can be trusted. Actually, there is one person who can be trusted, but I’m going to kill them."

Tuesday June 23rd

Just got back from a work event. Four glasses of wine instead of the prescribed two. As a lite-weight this could be a bit of a problem. Oops. Pretty sure I told one of my accounts that I was just using someone for sex? And the someone was a chick and I am straight. Crap. Oh well.

Okay, onto the news of the day:

Welcome to the World Marion & Tabitha Broderick!

One of my fave's Ms Sarah Jessica Parker has become a momma yet again. Ferris Bueller and Carrie Bradshaw became proud parents, via a surrogate. The official quote released by SJP's peeps is as follows:

“Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are delighted to announce the healthy arrival of their two daughters at 3:58 p.m. on June 22 in Ohio. Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz., and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 pounds. Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker’s side. The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon.”

Yay! Love SJP so hard and am happy that everything went well after the whole Surrogate break-in scandal. You heard about this right? 2 Police Chiefs from Ohio allegedly broke into the home of the surrogate in an effort to gather information for the tabloids. Okay, so being a celebrity means you give up some of your privacy. But for police officers to break into the home of a pregnant woman to gather dirt for the paps. Ugh. I hope they make lots of fun and interesting friends in prison.

Huge congrats and lurve to SJP and Matthew. I think these two munchkins will be quite the fashionistas and I can't wait to see them grow up! I am sure that James Wilke will love being a big brother to his new little sisters!

Perez is still a douche

I hate to give him more press, but Perez just doesn't know when to quit. He was called out by the good folks at GLAAD for his clearly homophobic slurs hurled at Will.I.Am. Another obscenely long statement "from the heart" was issued today defending his words. I agree violence is wrong. Buddy who clocked him shouldn't have. But Perez needs to realise that words can hurt as well. Okay I think I am done with this. Until the court case. Cause you know that Perez is gonna take it as far as he can.

Happy Happy Birthday to Joss Whedon!

Creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse. And Dr. Horrible. Can't believe I almost forgot my NPH and Dr Horrible. I am so happy that you were born. You are beyond genius and have given us all some of the best TV ever. Hands down. Never stop Joss. Ever.

Awesome pic is from Neill's A-Z of Awesomeness. It is a rad site. Ch-ch-check it out yo!

RIP To Ed McMahon

Admittedly, I am too young and too Australian to really appreciate the whole Ed McMahon phenomenon. But I do know that he was the best sidekick ever. Much love to his family and friends on his sad passing

Blargh. Bed beckons me! Another long day tomorrow. but I am thrilled to report that it is the very last fricking cluster fam of the year! So beyond over these things and so over the moon thay are dunzo. Snoopy dance of happiness going on in my head right now.

Yet to watch True Blood or last nites Nurse Jackie. Just caught up on Chelsea Lately and My Jon Stewart. My PVR is at over 80% and that worries me a titch. Maybe on my vacation (5 more days of work to go - woot!) I can clear some stuff out. I have all of Angels in America on there. I love it, but need to be in the right mood ya know?

Okay, Special K Red Berries, then bed.
