Crazy Incoherent Rambling....Out!

After weeks of negotiation and speculation, Paula Abdul announced via Twitter that she would not be returning to American Idol for it's upcoming 9th season. "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to #IDOL" she announced late Tuesday night, followed by "“I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon.”

For those not fluent in Twitterverse the hash (#) sign is used so that when someone searches for something (in this case "IDOL"), it will show up, and increase your chance of being a "trending topic". Hmmm.... Paula is filled with so much sadness, but she still does everything she can to get on trending topics?

I have no opinion really on the money side of this whole thing. A 30% raise is pretty damn good in the majority of people's eyes, but if Paula felt that she was worth more than that, so be it. Yes, even with the 30% raise, she would still be making substantially less than both Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest. Yes, this could be considered sexist.

Many on the interweb are up in arms about this (maybe they should follow the twi-hards lead and start a petition - cause they are so successful). They claim that the "heart" is leaving the show. If by the heart, they mean the certifiably crazy, then they are right. Paula Abdul is a nut-job. Yes she was nice to the contestants. Yes she "nurtured" them. Yes, she danced when they sang upbeat songs. But this is a singing contest. If someone sucks, what good is it to tell them how pretty they look? That is not gonna happen in the real world.

And in recent seasons, her primary contribution to the show had pretty much deteriorated to one of two things: Verbal sparring with Simon, which was completely rude and disrespectful to the contestants standing on the stage. That or rambling incoherently, slurring her words and basically making absolutely no sense whatsoever. So if that is worth $30 million a year (which is what Simon supposedly makes) then I guess she is being grossly underpaid.

This is one of my favourite "moments" from Paula during her tenure on Idol. She was critiquing a song that Jason Castro had not even sung yet...... sigh. Maybe with the crazy leaving the building, the show can get back to having some semblance of legitimacy as a search for the "best undiscovered talent" in America.
Abdul.... don't let the door hit your ass on the way......Out!
XO
