Method Madness?

Christian Bale is known to totally and completely immerse himself in an acting role. To the point that he doesn't break character even when filming is done for the day. We all recall his infamous on the set of Terminator when someone on the crew fiddled with the lights while he was filming a scene.

Recent images of him on the set of his latest movie indicate the lengths he is willing to go to for a movie. Only weeks after appearing fit and healthy at the premier of Public Enemies, Bale seems to have quickly dropped a substantial amount of weight for his new role. He is currently filming "The Fighter" in which he plays boxer turned trainer turned drug addict Dickie Eklund. Not only does he seem considerably thinner, there is also something funky going on with his hairline isn't there? Or maybe that is just receding anyways.

This is most definitely not the first time that Christian Bale has lost a ton of weight for a role. In 2004 Bale lost a staggering 64 pounds for his role as an insomniac in The Machinist. Scary! And straight after this role, he bulked up for his Batman role. I hope that he has a great nutritionist and trainer on his side!

It is not often that actors lose a ton of weight for a role. Most of the time, actors beef up for their roles (a la Deniro in Raging Bull and Zellweger in the Bridget Jones Movies). I commend him for his dedication to his craft, provided of course that he is doing it all safely!
